I used Audacity to convert the WAV file I created using Windows Sound Recorder. It took me quite a while with the Help menu to figure out how to import the WAV file. Once I was able to get the WAV file uploaded, it was just a matter of opening the file and saving it as an MP3 file to my desktop. I don't find Audacity particularly user friendly for beginners. I would hesitate having my students use it without creating an extensive tutorial.
